This model features Cartier’s dual mystery floating tourbillon concept. Master watchmakers use an anti-glare treated sapphire crystal disc and carve a precisely sized opening matching the tourbillon. This creates the illusion that the tourbillon cage is suspended in mid-air.
To achieve this visual effect, the supporting disc is made to rotate, while the minute wheel driving the oscillating regulator is mounted on an axle that reduces internal torque resistance within the regulating mechanism. This allows power to be transmitted efficiently to the tourbillon, enabling the entire structure to complete one full suspended rotation per minute.
As a result, while the tourbillon rotates once per minute within an apparently open transparent space, its supporting framework simultaneously completes one full revolution.
The key innovation lies in a gear track integrated around the edge of the sapphire disc, connecting it to a large gear that completes one full rotation every minute.
This “magic watch” is powered by a finely finished manual-winding mechanical movement developed by an independent watchmaker and represents years of research and refinement.
To optimize energy efficiency, all moving components have been reduced in weight. The tourbillon cage, made of titanium, weighs only 0.28g. To balance the regulating system and structural components, part of the gear ring is made of gold and positioned opposite the tourbillon, creating a balanced dynamic equilibrium.
