In 1915, Breitling created the first wristwatch with an independent chronograph button in history. In 1923, the brand separated the “chronograph” and “reset” functions from a single button. In 1934, it launched the first dual independent chronograph buttons, establishing the aesthetic framework for modern chronograph watches. On its centennial anniversary, inspired by the Tricolor Arrow collaborative watch released the previous year, Breitling introduced the Chronomat series—the prototype of the new Chronomat timepieces—featuring bezel indicators and an automatic chronograph movement. This Chronomat watch also initiated the strong resurgence of Swiss mechanical watches during the quartz crisis.
