The 2026 newly released American 1921 tourbillon mechanical watch, inspired by Vacheron Constantin’s century-old classic, is widely known as the “Driver’s Watch” or “crooked dial” design.
Originally created a century ago for automobile driving needs, the dial was rotated approximately 45 degrees clockwise so that time could be read at a glance without twisting the wrist. This distinctive design has since become one of the defining characteristics of the American 1921 line.
The watch features classic early watchmaking elements such as railway minute tracks, Breguet-style numerals, and traditional hands. These historical design codes remain timeless, preserving a strong sense of vintage elegance even in a modern context.
With a case size of 40 × 12 mm, the watch is equipped with a hand-wound tourbillon movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a 48-hour power reserve. The movement architecture and component finishing are designed to be visually coherent through the transparent caseback, highlighting fine mechanical structure and craftsmanship aesthetics.
This reinterpretation of the historic design emphasizes its unique geometry—combining rotated symmetry, unconventional layout, and classic horological proportions—resulting in a highly recognizable visual identity.
